# Open Cacao Index (kakao.io)

> Open Cacao Index is an independent, non-commercial open-data archive of cacao at origin. It catalogs 124 cacao origin records across 47 producing countries, classified by the ten genetic clusters of Motamayor et al. 2008, PLoS ONE 3(10):e3311 (genetic clusters). Each origin carries a stable ID and explicit provenance status (draft/reviewed/verified) with cited sources. The site ships in 24 languages.

The canonical product is the dataset at /data/cacao-origins.json. The website is a thin rendering layer. For programmatic use, fetch the JSON.
