Brasso Seco

Trinidad and Tobago · Northern Range (Paria district, north Trinidad)  draft

Brasso Seco is a village of around 350 people in Trinidad's Northern Range, founded as a coffee and cocoa settlement in the early 1900s and largely populated by descendants of Cocoa Panyols — Venezuelan peons who migrated to Trinidad after the 1838 abolition of slavery to work the cocoa estates. Today the village runs a community-owned chocolate company and is the site of a Cocoa Research Centre cocoa-conservation partnership.
