Acul-du-Nord, about 15 km from Cap-Haïtien in Haiti's Nord Department, hosts the PISA (Produits des Îles SA) fermentation facility, set up in 2014 to centrally ferment Haitian smallholder cocoa to fine-flavour grade. PISA buys wet beans from farmers in the surrounding Nord plain — alongside the older FECCANO cooperative network — and exports fermented cocoa to international fine-chocolate buyers.
