Bahia南部のIlhéus・Itabuna地帯はブラジルの歴史あるカカオ産地で、伝統的に在来の大西洋岸森林の日陰のもと、cabrucaアグロフォレストリー方式で栽培されてきた。1980年代後半からテング巣病で壊滅的な被害を受けたが、病害耐性のあるクローンと成長しつつあるファインフレーバーのbean-to-bar部門が回復を牽引している。
